{ MA STYLE }

One could simply say that I am a documentary photographer who goes to locations, uses available light, and captures candid moments. I like to think that I can stop time wherever I am and preserve history in its most honest moment. So, what’s your story? I’d like to help record it.

{ MA BIO }

Sharon S. Ma earned her Master of Fine Arts in photography and related media from Parsons The New School for Design, New School University. Ma creates works of art that combine archaeology with elements of photography and sculpture in order to show how people curate their lives and experiences, by comparing the transience of human life to the ever-changing form of nature. Her works, such as Collectors and hello, point at the human quest for immortality, the personalization of everyday things and their elevation into grandeur, and the evolving definition of self against shifting environments.

Ma also received her Bachelor of Arts from New York University, where she studied history, studio art, and anthropology. She went on to continue with her Master study in archaeology at Yale University. She has worked for non-profits such as the Peabody Museum of Natural History, Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art, and The New York Botanical Garden.

Her projects have exhibited and published internationally as well as appeared in The New York TimesArt CriticalSonima, and Time Out: New York. Ma was the recipient of the Berkeley, Biddle, and Woolsey and Augusta Hazard travel awards from Yale University and the Dean's Scholarship award from New School University. You may connect with her on Facebook, Instagram, My Parents Eat at Buffets, and Twitter.
